Turned Out is a personal expression shaped by the emancipations and repressions of two seemingly disparate worlds: rural India and metropolitan New York, upon which Ritu has built her emotional life. Though they may appear divided by geography, progress or privilege, old world versus new and East versus West, they share the same contradictions, vulnerabilities and humanities.
Reflecting our current social environment, where everything is seen in stark polarities such as right versus wrong, good versus evil, pluralism versus bigotry and democracy versus fascism in unprecedented proportion, Turned Out aspires to explore and embrace the confounding dualities not only around us but within ourselves as well.
