Borrowed Plumes

BORROWED PLUMES is an examination of what it feels like to incrementally and unwittingly surrender yourself to the cages of others’ expectations, cultural mandates and institutional allegiances. It is inspired by a feeling of loss- a loss of pride in our roots, in our truth, and in our very personal stories in pursuit of success, dignity and belonging. The film hopes to inspire self-acceptance, an acceptance that ultimately empowers you to write your own future - a future that uniquely balances roots and traditions with chapters of your journey, both those being forged in the present and those yet to come, of our own design and shaping.

Racism and mounting confusion about her identity lead to an Asian Indian actress botching an audition, she works through complicated feelings around cultural assimilation to reassert her American identity on the world stage.
